Search Engine Optimization|SEO
First of all, I have some qualification to make, I am NOT an SEO or Search Engine Optimization expert or guru, far from that,I am just an novice in this field. At best, I am just an SEO enthusiast with a Marketing qualification in Brick and Mortar Business. What prompted me to make this post the very first post of my resurrected website, or I should call it blog now due to a couple of reasons.
Firstly, some time last week, someone Yahoo IM me out of nowhere and asked me whether I would like to use their service on wed design or SEO/SEM service. Of of curiosity, I asked him to give me the URL of their company sites, so he did and I do a little spying on them. Well, the SEO score and relevancy on their keyword is much lesser than mine. Interestingly, when I yold him that, he asked me how did I get all those information on his website. Now imagine you engage a SEO expert who does not know what your competitors are doing?
Secondly, I stumbled on a blog which the owner claim to be an SEO expert and charge thousand for a site review and optimization and with a screen short SERP of the optimized page. It was claerly shown that the chosen keyword is on Google SERP #1. Well I have no question on the SEO ability of his, but the question remains, “How Many People really search for this chosen Keyword?” Now, that is what many self proclaimed SEO experts never tell their unsuspected clients, you wanted this keyword, no issue, I will optimize for you and surely, their clients chosen keywords will be on page 1 of Google SERP. You may asked, but they have shown also the traffic generated, that shows it works! Traffic Generation tricks, that’s will be another topic.
When a surfer type certain selected words or phrases onto the search bar of the search engine like Google, MSN. and Yahoo and your site come out on the 1st page of the SERP (Search Engine Result Page). It can be said that your site is fully optimized.
Controversy on Search Engine Optimization|SEO and Search Engine Marketing|SEM
One of the benefits that have your site appears on the 1st page of SERP is that the surfer will have a keener interest to know more on your site as she found you and not through any hard selling or promotion. She will be more receptive to what you presented. But like it or not, Like it or not, many people will not go beyond the 3rd pages of any SERP.
Because of the potential high traffic on appearing on the 1st page of SERP, most if not all webmaster would like their sites to be on the 1st page of any SERP on their selected keyword and created a highly competitive marketplace and thus the birth of Search Engine Optimization or SEO.
There are different schools of thought in the argument that one should provide quality content for their intended user rather than using SEO techniques to get higher ranking in SERP but provide inferior content on their website. The fact remains that with good quality content plus proper optimization of your site, you will have even better chances of higher ranking in SERP on your selected keyword or key phrase.
While the important of SEO cannot be discounted, you must always remember that the essence of any business is to add value, so does your website. In the long run, quality contents site providing quality contents, products. services and support with proper optimization will win the race.
Basic Search Engine Optimization
There are two criteria in SEO techniques, the Onpage and Offpage criteria.
The Onpage optimization deal with those elements in your web pages that can influence the ranking of your webpages or website on the SERP. These elements involved
1. Your domain name (though I have a different view)
2. Your Title tag of your webpage.
3. The Meta Keywords Tag.
4. The Mata Description Tag
5. Body Text
6. The First Sentence of your body Text
7.. The Headline and Sub Headlines
8. The Last sentence of your Body Text
9. Image Alt Tag
The Offline elements are more complex which involved inbound links and anchor text that link to your webpage.
